Timosciek Aims for More Success with Lockport Volleyball

6 days ago 0

Hutsyn Timosciek, known for her standout performance two years ago, continues to drive Lockport’s success in volleyball. She had 11 kills in a crucial supersectional match that helped Lockport reach the state finals for the first time in 25 years. Last season, she recorded 356 kills, contributing significantly to the team’s third-place finish in Class 4A, despite the absence of Kyla Mitchell due to injury.

Now a senior, Timosciek sees room for more achievements. “We definitely want more — that’s the goal every year,” she stated. “We’ve had a taste, and we want more.” Her determination was evident during a recent victory over Sandburg, where she delivered another impressive 11 kills, leading the Porters to a 25-18, 25-22 win.

Virginia recruit Kyla Mitchell added 10 kills, crucial in a tight second game, while Milwaukee recruit Natalie Bochantin provided 12 assists. Emma Consigny contributed with six digs. On Sandburg’s side, Bella Maras led with five kills, with Ellery Dyra adding three blocks.

Having both Timosciek and Mitchell on the court is a major advantage for Lockport. Last year, Mitchell watched from the sidelines with a leg injury, but she is back and playing as an outside hitter now. “Hutsyn is a major part of our team,” Mitchell remarked, emphasizing her reliability and powerful play.

Lockport coach Nick Mraz noted Timosciek’s growth since her sophomore year, particularly remembering her performance in a decisive supersectional match against Downers Grove South. “We knew she would have to pick up a lot of the slack, and she did,” Mraz said. “Her confidence carried into this year. She wants the ball. She demands the ball.”

Reflecting on two state finals appearances, Timosciek believes their experience gives them an edge. “Sophomore year, we didn’t know exactly what to do,” she explained. “By junior year, we knew the routine.”

The Timosciek family has a tradition of state appearances. Her mother Sherrie played in Sandburg’s soccer team that qualified for state in 1991, and her brothers Hayden and Hyatt were part of Lockport’s 2021 state football champions. Although Sherrie attended Sandburg, there is little rivalry reluctance. “She wants me to win,” Timosciek says confidently about her mom’s current loyalties.

Timosciek’s drive and athletic legacy position her as a key player as Lockport looks to secure a stronger finish this season.
