Late-night comedy hosts Seth Meyers and John Oliver shared insights into their interactions with President Donald Trump during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. They joked about Kimmel being their “bulletproof vest” against Trump’s criticisms.
At comedy shows, Oliver often faces questions about being disliked by the president. He responds that as long as Kimmel remains on air, he feels protected. Meyers echoed Oliver’s sentiment by saying, “You draw all the ire.”
They discussed why Kimmel drew more attention from Trump than others. Meyers believed it’s not just Kimmel’s dislike for Trump but imagined that Trump would actually want to mingle with Kimmel, seeing him as more relatable than other hosts.
Kimmel noted that Trump doesn’t seem to have issues with Jon Stewart but does with Meyers occasionally. He conjectured that Trump likely watches major networks but doesn’t have access to HBO, which airs Oliver’s show.
Kimmel also observed that Trump wouldn’t find Comedy Central and suggested Meyers’ show airs too late for Trump, who might already be asleep. However, when Trump does comment on Meyers’ show, it’s while it’s airing, which Meyers appreciates despite his mixed feelings.
Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers had amusing back-and-forth observations during an episode of Kimmel’s late-night show.
The White House had strong words for the hosts, especially Meyers and Oliver, dismissing them with derogatory remarks. A spokesperson described Meyers as untalented, suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Oliver was called a “pathetic moron.” Kimmel’s previous statements from the White House labeled him as a “no-talent loser.”
Despite the harsh criticism, the hosts continue to engage audiences with their comedic takes on political events.
