Kelly Clarkson Reflects on ‘From Justin to Kelly’ and Bans Her Kids from Watching It

Kelly Clarkson recently shared her decision to keep her children away from a certain chapter of her career. During her final Las Vegas concert on Saturday, the singer, who is 44, disclosed that she has prohibited her daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remington, 10, from watching her 2003 musical comedy, “From Justin to Kelly.”

At the concert, captured in a video by Us Weekly, Clarkson joked about the movie, sarcastically calling it “Oscar-worthy,” and explained her involvement by saying she was “contractually obligated.”

“Read the f—ing fine print,” Clarkson remarked to the amused crowd. “I didn’t know that if you won, you had to do a movie. Not everyone aspires to be Meryl Streep; some of us just like watching her. I wasn’t keen on acting, but winning meant I had to. It felt more like a loss.”

The movie, co-starring “American Idol” runner-up Justin Guarini, came out soon after Clarkson’s win on the reality show. It tells the story of two people who fall in love during spring break. Clarkson labeled the film less favorably, saying it was “s—,” when reflecting on the project.

Despite a fan’s positive comment about the movie at the concert, Clarkson said the fan was seeing it with “loving eyes.” Clarkson did admit some aspects weren’t all bad, specifically the music. She noted, “The music part, that was fun.” She advised finding positives even in less-than-ideal situations.

“Turn that s— into lemonade and cry yourself to sleep,” added Clarkson, humorously.

“From Justin to Kelly” debuted in 2003, a year after Clarkson’s “American Idol” triumph. It’s clear she doesn’t hold the project dearly, especially since her kids are barred from watching it.
