Controversy Surrounds Adam Brody’s Genocide Comment

34 minutes ago 0

Rabbi Steve Leder, involved in advising the Netflix series ‘Nobody Wants This,’ responded to Adam Brody’s assertion that Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza. On Instagram, Leder addressed Brody directly, emphasizing his role in ensuring the series’ portrayal of Judaism was genuine.

Leder criticized Brody for what he termed as a “misuse” of the word genocide. He found Brody’s comments on Gaza crude and argued that Brody’s understanding was lacking. “Your pronouncement the other day about a ‘genocide in Gaza’ was truly shocking,” Leder stated. He highlighted that genocides occurring elsewhere were not mentioned by Brody.

Leder remarked, “You, by your own admission, are a relatively ignorant Jew, and your ignorance really showed the other day.”

Brody, who portrays a rabbi in the series, made his statement during an interview with GQ magazine, expressing his stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza. Brody openly advocated for a “free Palestine” and condemned the ongoing humanitarian crisis, expressing hope for future policy changes.

Rabbi Yaakov Menken of the Coalition for Jewish Values also criticized Brody, labeling the actor’s comments as “ignorant.” Menken argued that such rhetoric diverted from the actions of Hamas, which he described as responsible for hostilities. He pointed out that victims of genocide don’t have control over its cessation, arguing against Brody’s claims.

The Israeli-American Council voiced their disapproval, stating that comments like Brody’s could spark violence. They pointed to an incident on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv as a reminder of the threats faced by Israelis and Jews daily.
