Comedian Jeff Dye Criticizes Fellow Comic’s Conduct

Comedian Jeff Dye has expressed his disapproval after witnessing fellow performer Laura Kightlinger writing an insult on his Tesla. Dye, who caught the act on his car’s security cameras, described her behavior as unsuitable for a woman her age.

Dye posted on social media platform X, sharing images from the footage. In his post, he explained that he and Kightlinger had just performed together, but had not interacted beyond that. “I’m assuming she didn’t know it was my Tesla she wrote ‘Douche’ on,” Dye commented. He referred to her actions as strange for a 60-year-old adult and mentioned he looked forward to future collaborations.

“Performed on a show with a comic I’ve never met. Her name is Laura Kightlinger @KingKightlinger. She seemed nice enough. We didn’t talk and she left before I went up,” Dye wrote.

The incident gained significant attention online, amassing over 440,000 views. Dye later stated that if he had done something similar, Kightlinger likely would have spoken about gender treatment in comedy, suggesting she might not feel safe.

Laura Kightlinger is known for her writing and comedic work, including roles as a consulting producer on “Will & Grace” and several comedy specials on platforms like Comedy Central and HBO. She publicly supported Bernie Sanders during the 2016 presidential election.

In contrast, Dye, who considers himself conservative, mentioned that his political and religious views differ from many in the comedy arena. “I’ve always been more conservative than my comedic counterparts,” he noted during an interview with Fox News Digital.

Kightlinger responded to Dye’s social media posts, sharing her version of events and an image of the writing on the windshield. She admitted her action was impulsive and expressed regret for not discussing her concerns with Dye directly. “I was so annoyed by his taking down of a comic who had just performed I impulsively wrote douche in the fog on his car,” she said.

Further messages between the two reveal Kightlinger’s apology on social media and Dye’s criticism of her actions as childish. Dye emphasized he was not crying out against Kightlinger but rather holding her accountable.

A statement provided by Dye’s management to Fox News noted that his car was not damaged besides the writing in the fog. Dye added, “Writing insults on people’s property is a totally expected behavior for fatherless teens but inappropriate for 60 year old women.”

Christian Toto, an entertainment reporter and podcast host, commented on the situation, highlighting the division in the comedy world. “Comedians in recent years, it’s almost like they’re picking sides,” he stated, while acknowledging conservative comics like Dye are accustomed to criticism.

Toto also mentioned that comedians often have various ways to respond to criticism. “If you’re a comedian, you’ve got all the tools to fire back on stage, on social media or even in person,” he commented.
