Pete Davidson and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani had a notable exchange on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. As a lifelong New Yorker, Davidson expressed frustration over the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway construction delays.
When host Jimmy Kimmel mentioned Mamdani as the next guest, Davidson seized the opportunity. He bluntly asked, “Could he fix the f—–g BQE, please?”. This comment received cheers from the audience, highlighting the shared sentiment among many New Yorkers.
Ongoing BQE Issues
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is notorious for traffic congestion and outdated infrastructure. Davidson emphasized that construction seems perpetual, and work progress appears stagnant. He quipped about seeing people standing around on their phones instead of working.
Kimmel promised to bring up Davidson’s concerns with Mamdani. The mayor later addressed it, discussing the $4 billion BQE Central Project aimed at rehabilitating the highway’s most critical section.
Mamdani assured: “We’re gonna be putting a multi-billion dollar plan to actually repair the part the city owns.”
Davidson’s Political Jokes and Personal Revelations
While often joking about politics, Davidson has previously voiced support for Democrats. Notably, he backed Hillary Clinton in 2016, even getting a tattoo of her, which he plans to keep despite removing other tattoos.
Davidson explained his tattoo removal decision, citing that they were “horrible” and a business choice. Some tattoos covered self-harm scars, reflecting a personal journey of overcoming pain.
His admiration for Clinton remains. “She’s awesome and a good friend,” Davidson stated.
