Harry Styles delivered a unique orchestral performance at the Meltdown festival held at Southbank Center. The event took place on June 16, where the 32-year-old singer-songwriter paused his successful “Together, Together” residency at Wembley Stadium. He collaborated with composer Jules Buckley and the House Gospel Choir to reenvision songs from his solo projects. The audience at the Royal Festival Hall enjoyed a sold-out show featuring Styles’ music, including tracks from his latest album “Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.”
Styles surprised fans by covering Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” During the performance, he expressed his passion for classical and orchestral music. According to “Variety,” Styles acknowledged the challenges he faced by entering a genre outside his comfort zone, stating, “It’s quite an intimidating field to step into as someone who doesn’t — cannot — read music.” He credited Jules Buckley for making him feel welcome, highlighting their collaborative relationship. “He never made me feel like I didn’t belong there in any way, and it’s been beautiful collaborating with him,” Styles remarked.
The Meltdown festival, curated by Styles, began on June 11 and includes diverse events featuring indie, jazz, electronic, and pop artists. Styles himself selected the lineup, and in a statement to “Billboard,” he expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “Music is my life; every artist involved in this year’s Meltdown festival means so much to me, both as a fan and a musician,” he said. He emphasized the honor of hosting legendary acts that have paved the way for future artists, as well as new talents that inspire him.
Harry Styles’ Meltdown festival extends until June 21 at the Southbank Center. His “Together, Together” tour will continue through the end of the year. This includes a 30-night series at Madison Square Garden in New York during the fall and a 12-night residency at Wembley Stadium in London ending on July 4.
