Georgia’s Youngest Elected Mayor Removed from Office

Jayden Williams, 23, became Georgia’s youngest elected mayor but was removed from office just 10 months into his tenure. Allegations of misusing city funds and inappropriate interactions with a high school student led to his impeachment by the Stockbridge City Council, located south of Atlanta.

The city confirmed Williams’ removal in a statement: “The City of Stockbridge confirms that the City Council has taken formal action concerning the Office of Mayor. The Mayor has been removed from office.”

Allegations of Misuse of Funds

Authorities alleged Williams used his city-issued purchasing card for over $4,000 in personal expenses. These expenses included restaurant meals, clothing, haircuts, and entertainment, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. Williams was also reported to have spent $2,600 on fuel and used a city vehicle for personal matters.

City workers identified unusual financial transactions, prompting an immediate notification to management and legal teams. Williams testified that he did not intend to misuse public funds and later repaid the money. He claimed the similarity between his personal card and the city card led to confusion, which he corrected by replacing the cards.

Controversial Communications

Separate accusations involved Williams exchanging sexually suggestive messages and images with an 18-year-old male high school student. While not criminal under Georgia law because the student was an adult, police referred it for policy and ethical review due to the student’s involvement in a city-related mentorship program.

Williams stated in his defense that he met the individual before assuming office, and the student was never part of the mayoral “Mentor for a Day” program. “The individual was 18 years old at the time of our communication, meaning we were both adults. I met this individual on November 30, 2025, and our online communication occurred before I was sworn into office in January 2026,” Williams noted.

Political and Educational Background

Williams was a student at Clark Atlanta University when he campaigned for the mayoral position, making history as the youngest mayor in Georgia. However, the ongoing investigation led to him being stripped of certain official privileges by mid-July, although he faced no criminal charges related to the alleged conduct.
