6 minutes ago 0

A man was hospitalized after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, local officials reported.

Incident Details

Austin City Council Member Mike Siegel, in a video interview with KVUE, described hearing from a source that an ICE vehicle cornered a civilian vehicle, sideswiping it, and an ICE officer shot the driver. Two bullet holes were visible in the vehicle, Siegel noted.

The man’s condition remains unknown, along with details of the events leading to the shooting. Siegel expressed concern about conducting a thorough investigation.

“My top concern right now is that this gets investigated properly,” Siegel stated. He emphasized the need for the city police to participate alongside federal agencies to ensure public confidence.

Official Response

Officials plan a press conference at 4 p.m. local time to provide more information. Video on social media shows an ICE agent with a weapon approaching a blue car with visible damage.

The Austin Police Department directed inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Newsweek reached out to DHS for comments.

Democratic Representative Greg Casar, on social media, demanded an independent investigation, body camera footage release, and accountability for any legal breaches by ICE officers. “Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened,” Casar wrote, calling for transparency and accountability.

Texas state Representative Vikki Goodwin confirmed via social media that another ICE-related shooting took place in North Austin. She mentioned police handling traffic control and anticipated further updates.

This incident adds to a series of shootings involving federal agents since President Donald Trump’s second term began in 2025.
