The tragic event claimed the lives of three people, including a woman suspected of bringing the explosive into the restaurant, a security guard, and a restaurant patron. This information was disclosed by Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee and reported by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
Around 8 p.m., the explosion took place on the ground floor terrace of a restaurant located at Kudrinksaya Square, an area known for its iconic Stalin-era skyscrapers. In total, at least 21 people were injured in the incident.
Law enforcement and emergency service personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene to manage the aftermath and investigate the incident. Images captured show police officers and emergency responders near the site of the explosion, an indication of the gravity of the situation.
Reports from Russian outlets identified the restaurant as Balzi Rossi, an Italian establishment. According to its website, the restaurant was closed to the public on Saturday for a private event, which coincided with the incident.
