Parker McCollum cherishes his transformation from a young boy eager to join his father on hunting trips to a country music star with two sons of his own. He looks forward to creating similar memories with his children.
Recently, Parker and his eldest son, Major, spent time at the family ranch. Major, only two years old, may not be much help yet but brings joy just by being there. Parker remembers his own childhood outings vividly, sharing that his father would take him out of school early to spend weekends hunting at the ranch.
“I remember those days so vividly,” he said. “My dad would get me out of school early on a Friday to go down to the lease or the ranch or whatever, and we would let it rip all weekend. And a lot of times it was just him and I.”
Hunting has long been a part of McCollum’s life. In a 2022 interview with NRA Country, he spoke about hunting with his dad at around eight years old with a single-shot .410 shotgun. His connection to the outdoors began even earlier, though; he recalls being upset when family hunting trips occurred without him due to his age.
Beyond hunting, McCollum spent his summers working on his grandfather’s ranch alongside cousins. Now, he hopes his sons, Major and Rocker, will develop the same love for the outdoors. For McCollum, the experience is about more than just hunting.
In his busy life, McCollum finds solace in outdoor activities. He appreciates the peace and simplicity found in nature. He speaks about the importance of slowing down and spending quality time with family without a strict agenda. This intentional slowdown provides a vital escape from the busy pace of daily life.
McCollum wants his children to learn the importance of not getting overwhelmed by life’s demands. He values time spent outdoors for its ability to nourish the soul.
Parker McCollum regularly performs at major events, balancing his love for music and family. He continues to advocate for outdoor activities through platforms like OutKick OutDoors, hoping to instill a love for nature in his children.
