Ukraine Intensifies Drone Attacks Across Russia

On Sunday, Ukraine initiated a significant aerial offensive involving hundreds of drones against Russia, resulting in at least six fatalities. This marks one of the most extensive drone assaults by Kyiv since the onset of the conflict. According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, it managed to neutralize 822 Ukrainian drones overnight.

In a substantial threat to the Russian capital, approximately 600 drones were reportedly headed toward Moscow. Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, indicated that about a third of these drones were destroyed within the Moscow region.

A tragic incident occurred in the Moscow region where an 83-year-old man lost his life as a Ukrainian drone struck a private residence, confirmed by local Governor Andrey Vorobyov. Additionally, a Ukrainian attack ignited a fire at a warehouse owned by Russian retailer Wildberries in Podolsk. Images circulating in Russian media depicted large plumes of black smoke rising from the site.

Elsewhere, in the southwestern Rostov region of Russia, another drone attack targeted three towns, resulting in five casualties, reported by local Governor Yury Slyusar. Over 150 drones were involved, causing damage to numerous homes and a railway station and igniting a forest fire.

Ukraine has consistently increased its attacks on Russian military and energy facilities throughout this year, using long-range missiles and drone swarms. The assault on Wildberries depots, leading to substantial merchandise losses, underscores Kyiv’s strategy to bring the conflict into Russian public consciousness nearly four and a half years into Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Concurrently, Russia launched its own missile attack on Ukraine’s Kryvyi Rih, killing two and injuring 14 others, as stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via social media on Sunday. In Sumy, an additional fatality was reported.

Back in Kyiv, a Russian attack sparked multiple fires across the city, injuring six individuals. President Zelenskyy highlighted the ongoing nature of these threats, emphasizing that Russian missile strikes continually target civilian infrastructure. He noted that air raid alerts were prevalent in numerous regions due to Russia initiating another drone wave.
