White Sox Advance to AL Division Series After Sweeping Astros

White Sox Triumph Over Astros

The Chicago White Sox are celebrating a significant achievement. They have earned a place in the American League Division Series after a decisive two-game sweep against the Astros in Houston. This victory marks the first postseason series win for the Sox since their triumphant sweep of the Astros in the 2005 World Series, which secured their first championship in 88 years.

Upcoming Series Against Cleveland Guardians

The White Sox now face a formidable opponent in the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians secured the AL Central title by a narrow margin. They finished just one game ahead of the Sox, marking their third consecutive division crown and their seventh in 11 years. The upcoming best-of-five ALDS promises intense competition.

Sox-Astros Series Details

The White Sox emerged victorious in Game 1 with a score of 6-3. Shortstop Colson Montgomery and second baseman Chase Meidroth played pivotal roles in the win, celebrated at Daikin Park on September 29, 2026, in front of 34,011 attendees.

In Game 1, both teams began with openers on the mound, leading to an active game for the bullpens. The Sox’s win in the opener set a positive tone for the series.

Game 2 saw the White Sox start strong again, with four runs in the first inning. They maintained pressure on the Astros throughout. Although the Astros reduced the gap with runs in the first, second, and fourth innings, Chase Meidroth’s three-run homer in the sixth provided the Sox with a comfortable lead. Jordan Hicks and Erick Fedde contributed decisively with two shutout innings each.

A Remarkable Turnaround

The Sox have defied the odds to reach the postseason, overcoming recent history. They clinched their playoff berth with a resounding 9-1 victory over the Royals on September 24, 2026. This achievement came after losing more than 100 games in each of the past three seasons, a situation no team had previously overcome to reach the playoffs.

Third baseman Miguel Vargas expressed the team’s sentiment, stating, “We’ve been chasing this moment for a long time. It’s special for us, it’s special for the organization. It’s a special group of guys. It’s the most fun you can have.”

The transformation from losing a record 121 games in 2024 to securing a playoff spot two years later is extraordinary.
