California Voter Guide and Political Landscape

27 minutes ago 0

Californians face a substantial list of choices this election year, with many candidates and issues to consider. As noted by Phil Willon, the politics editor, voters will encounter a “thick ballot” filled with dozens of unfamiliar candidates. To aid voters, the 2026 voter guide is now available.

This guide doesn’t endorse any candidates. Instead, it presents what each stands for, offering a balanced view. Mail-in ballots will be distributed by October 5, ahead of the November 3 election, allowing ample time for review.

According to Willon, the guide serves as a “cheat sheet” offering readers insights into candidates’ positions. It includes information on 14 statewide ballot measures. Key proposals include a tax on billionaires and voter ID requirements. Others address using tax funds for home purchases, public campaign financing, and recall procedures.

Willon emphasizes the guide’s objective nature, contrasting it with campaign ads and the comprehensive materials from the Secretary of State. Voters are encouraged to read the guide thoroughly and make informed choices.
