U.S. and Nigerian forces recently executed another strike against ISIS fighters in Nigeria, as announced by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). This operation follows a recent mission that resulted in the death of a prominent ISIS leader.
AFRICOM confirmed conducting these additional operations in collaboration with Nigeria’s government. They reported that evaluations are underway, confirming that no U.S. or Nigerian personnel were harmed.
The removal of these terrorists diminishes the group’s capacity to plan attacks that threaten the safety and security of the U.S. and our partners, AFRICOM stated.
The operations come after President Donald Trump revealed that joint U.S. and Nigerian efforts resulted in the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, ISIS’s second-in-command at a global level.
Describing al-Minuki’s downfall, President Trump posted on Truth Social, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but we had sources keeping us informed of his movements. He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa or help plan operations to target Americans.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed that U.S. forces, with Nigeria’s Armed Forces’ cooperation, successfully targeted al-Minuki and other ISIS leaders.
According to Hegseth, For months, we hunted this top ISIS leader in Nigeria who was killing Christians, and we eliminated him and his entire group.
This announcement occurred after the U.S. military conducted ten strikes targeting more than 30 ISIS sites in Syria, as part of continuing efforts to apply pressure on the terrorist group post a December incident where multiple U.S. troops were killed.
