Tulsa’s Improbable Touchdown Shines in Victory Over Navy

Saturday’s college football schedule featured two highly anticipated SEC matchups. Still, a remarkable play by Tulsa in their game against Navy also grabbed attention.

Tulsa’s game against Navy unfolded dramatically as the Golden Hurricane scored a touchdown that seemed unimaginable. With under two minutes left in the first quarter and the game tied at seven apiece, Tulsa positioned themselves at the Navy 10-yard line.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane receiver David Wells Jr. made a key play during the clash with Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, on October 10, 2026. Quarterback Baylor Hayes threw a backward pass to receiver Oran Singleton Jr., who was met seven yards behind the line of scrimmage. Despite the defense’s pressure, Singleton escaped and launched a pass into coverage.

David Wells Jr. performed an astonishing feat by tipping the ball back to himself outside the end zone before securing it and scoring. This play was pivotal, as Singleton later scored his own touchdown, extending Tulsa’s lead to 26-14 in the second half.

The Navy Midshipmen, who had a stellar season last year, struggled this time. The previous season, they were nationally ranked, winning the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy after victories over Air Force and Army, and concluding with a Liberty Bowl win for an 11-2 record. This year, however, they faced a tough start, already surpassing last season’s loss count.

Tulsa’s season started on a more positive note with a 3-2 record, seeking to improve after a disappointing 4-8 last year.
