Philadelphia Eagles Release Andy Dalton After Interception

1 day ago 0

The Philadelphia Eagles decided to release quarterback Andy Dalton after his brief appearance in a disappointing 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 3. Dalton, 38, entered the game after starting quarterback Jalen Hurts left with an injury. At that moment, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 in the second quarter and stood on the Bears’ 2-yard line, facing a third-and-goal situation.

Dalton, who has been a Pro Bowler three times, took the snap from the shotgun but threw an interception on the play. Rookie safety Dillon Thieneman managed to intercept the pass. Following this performance, the Eagles made the decision to part ways with Dalton before their departure for a game in London.

After the interception, the Eagles promoted Tanner McKee to the backup quarterback position, subsequently relegating Dalton to the third spot on the depth chart. As a result, Dalton is no longer part of the team. This marks the sixth NFL team Dalton has played for during his career. He initially spent nine years as a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals before becoming a backup with several other teams.

Dalton’s career after the Bengals included stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and the Eagles. Despite his extensive journey in the NFL, Dalton did not start a game for the Eagles.

Throughout his NFL career, Dalton has played in 180 games, starting 169 of them. He has achieved an 84-83-2 record, completing 62.6% of his passes for a total of 39,793 yards with 254 touchdowns and 152 interceptions.

The Eagles, holding a 2-2 record, are set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who stand at 3-1, in a game in London at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on Sunday.
