Kate Middleton’s Iconic Tiara Choice for State Banquet

29 minutes ago 0

Kate Middleton continued her tradition of wearing her favorite tiara at the recent state banquet held at Windsor Castle on October 20. The Princess of Wales, alongside Prince William, hosted Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman for his visit to the U.K. This event highlighted Kate’s enduring style, with her choice of the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara, a headpiece she has frequently worn since 2015.

The Princess of Wales complemented her tiara with a notable yellow gown by designer Elie Saab. She also donned the King Charles’ Royal Family Order badge and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star, enhancing her sophisticated ensemble. A royal commentator mentioned that Kate’s choice reflects her consistency in the modern monarchy and ensured the focus remained on the visiting dignitary and the royal hosts, King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Since marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate has worn five different royal tiaras. However, the Lover’s Knot remains a standout favorite. Created in 1913 for Queen Mary by the House of Garrard, the tiara utilized existing pearls and diamonds from Mary’s family collection. It was a replica of a tiara owned by Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge.

Following Queen Mary’s passing in 1953, the tiara was willed to Queen Elizabeth II, who wore it on many occasions. In 1981, she lent it to Princess Diana, making it one of the two tiaras Diana was photographed wearing. The other was the Spencer tiara, which is now in the possession of Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.

During the recent banquet, Queen Camilla wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, a piece frequently worn by Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign. The event, coordinated by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the royal household, serves to strengthen international relations, beyond exhibiting exquisite jewels.

The banquet took place in St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle due to renovations at Buckingham Palace. It hosted 160 guests, featuring an extensive dining setup that included 480 knives and forks. The menu adhered to Omani tradition, offering Arabic coffee flavored with cardamom and rose water, plus a selection of teas including Earl Grey and mint with rose water.

Kate has been gradually resuming her royal duties. In September 2024, she announced the completion of her chemotherapy and in January 2025 declared her remission.
