Joan Jett is taking a break from performing after suffering a severe injury that required surgery. Her band, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, has canceled their remaining scheduled concerts in September due to this setback.
The announcement came through a post on Jett’s Instagram Story, explaining that the 67-year-old rock icon underwent orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae. She now needs to focus on recovery and will be sidelined for upcoming shows in Costa Mesa, California on September 5, and Louisville, Kentucky on September 24.
Her team expressed regret for causing disappointment to fans but emphasized her priority is physical therapy and healing. Jett intends to return with thrilling performances once recovered. Details of Jett’s injury remain private, and Fox News Digital sought comments from her representatives.
The Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa shared an update stating Cheap Trick will replace Jett at the scheduled performance, with X as the opening act. Ticket holders can attend the new lineup or request a refund from their purchase point.
In Louisville, Jett was to perform at the Bourbon & Beyond festival. The festival features bands like Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and notable artists like Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves.
Joan Jett first gained fame in the 1970s with The Runaways, an all-female rock band. Later, she achieved global success with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, founded in 1979. The band produced ten albums, delivering hits such as “I Love Rock ’n Roll” and “Bad Reputation.” Joan Jett & the Blackhearts entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
In recent years, the band released their first acoustic album “Changeup” in 2022, followed by the EP “Mindsets” in 2023. They’ve remained active on tour, performing alongside bands like Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe.
Jett has publicly acknowledged the physical toll of decades on the road, adapting her exercise routine as she ages. She shared that while traveling serves as exercise, it is one part of touring she doesn’t enjoy due to wear and tear on her body.
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts currently have no scheduled upcoming shows, but Jett is optimistic about performing for her fans in the future.
