New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Monday that the city will welcome all media members for a joint meeting with President Donald Trump. This follows Trump’s ban of certain media outlets from the White House. The announcement was made during a press conference at Gracie Mansion.
When questioned about his stance on Trump’s decision to exclude CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, Mamdani stated, “I told the president that we’re going to have all of the members of the press here on the lawn. That is something that I believe in, as everyone, no matter the opinion or critique that we engage in.”
During the press conference, Trump defended his action and commented on the suspension of presidential pool coverage by television networks including FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News. “It’s interesting because they said they were going to boycott me, but they never boycott me. So I wasn’t very worried about that. Look at all that press,” Trump remarked.
Trump’s engagement with the media at Gracie Mansion came despite his criticism of their coverage. He emphasized his achievements like winning the election, settling wars, and improving economic figures. “We have the best economic numbers for the country in the history of our country. We have $21 trillion pouring in, the biggest number ever… Nobody’s ever done what we’ve done,” Trump stated.
Trump argued that admitting certain media outlets to the White House posed risks to national security, accusing them of delivering “fake news.” He said, “I never get anything positive. It’s always negative, even having to do with the war. We’ve done so well,” referring to Iran. He criticized outlets like CNN, labeling their coverage as “fake news.”
The White House pool members, including FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News, announced they had agreed to suspend their pooled coverage of President Donald Trump. Trump remained firm, declaring that some media outlets were “very bad for the country, very bad for national security.” He concluded, “So we’ll see how it works out.”
