School District Reviews Incident Involving Staff’s Comments on Charlie Kirk

A school district in Washington is conducting a review following a viral confrontation involving a high school nurse. The incident centered on comments about Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. A video capturing the event circulated widely on social media this week. It featured a district employee, identified online, expressing controversial remarks during a discussion about Kirk.

The Lake Washington School District confirmed to Fox News Digital that they are investigating the situation. They emphasized that the opinions expressed in the video do not align with the district’s values. A spokesperson stated, “Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is aware of a video circulating on social media involving a district staff member. We have received concerns from community members regarding the statements and conduct shown in the video.”

The video, shared by the Right Angle News Network account, identifies the individual as Kelsey Ballin, a nurse at Eastlake High School. She can be heard saying, “Oh my God, thank God he’s dead, bye,” referring to Charlie Kirk. The incident reportedly took place at a farmer’s market. She also made gestures such as blowing a kiss and sticking out her tongue. Others present at the scene wore Kirk “Freedom” t-shirts.

Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10 during his “American Comeback Tour” speech at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson was accused of fatally shooting Kirk during this event. The commotion caused by this incident extended to other areas, as Utah Valley University later canceled a controversial commencement speaker who had criticized Kirk after his death.

Eastlake High School belongs to the Lake Washington School District, located in Sammamish, Washington, serving students from grades 9 to 12. The district’s spokesperson commented, “The district takes these concerns seriously. District leadership has initiated a review of the circumstances surrounding this incident and will follow established processes as the review moves forward. It is important to note the views expressed in the video do not reflect the values or positions of Lake Washington School District.”

The spokesperson further added, “LWSD is committed to providing welcoming, safe, and inclusive learning environments for all students, families, staff, and community members. We expect all employees to uphold professional standards and the values of the district, contributing to a culture of respect, dignity, and civil discourse.”

They noted that while district employees have certain rights as private citizens, these situations require a balance between personal freedoms and professional responsibilities. When queried about its policies governing employees’ behavior outside work and on social media, the district referred to its staff conduct policy and additional guidance on using social media.
