Jeff Metcalf’s Reflections on Son’s Murder and Trial

Jeff Metcalf, father of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, expressed his thoughts regarding the recent evidence presented and the verdict in his son’s murder trial. He criticized the media for politicizing the tragedy and focusing on racial aspects, stressing the value of character over race during discussions about the incident.

Metcalf emphasized the media’s influence, noting attempts to profit from the situation. He expressed dismay that some people seemed more interested in gaining fame and clicks.

“They’re looking for their 15 minutes of fame, or their clickbait or their clicks. They’re just looking to monetize the death of my son,” Metcalf stated on ‘The Will Cain Show’.

Trial Proceedings and Evidence

Recently released evidence shed light on the events leading to the stabbing incident in 2025. Body camera footage from police showed the suspect, Karmelo Anthony, admitting to the crime during his arrest. Although Anthony claimed self-defense, he was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Metcalf’s Discontent with Public Commentary

Jeff Metcalf reacted to comments from media personalities like Sunny Hostin, who questioned why Anthony’s actions were not deemed self-defense. Metcalf argued against the public opinion, offering to discuss the facts on ‘The View’.

He lamented the racial discourse surrounding the murder trial. He had previously advised against framing the tragedy in terms of race and politics.

“We don’t see color. So, all I see is character in people. I don’t care what color you are,” Metcalf expressed.

Empathy and Unanswered Apologies

Metcalf revealed a degree of empathy for Anthony, observing the absence of the convicted killer’s family during crucial trial moments. He noted how they left Anthony alone after the verdict was announced.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Metcalf acknowledged no apologies or remorse had been offered by Anthony’s family.

“Have you ever spoken to the Anthonys?” Cain asked.

“No,” Metcalf responded. “Nothing,” he continued, indicating a lack of communication or apology.
