Chicagoland High School Football Week 5 Highlights

Nazareth vs. Providence

Nazareth secured a 17-7 win against Providence in a Catholic League crossover game. Providence senior Broden Mackert was a standout, rushing for 119 yards on 18 carries. Despite Mackert’s efforts, including a 23-yard touchdown run, Providence’s four turnovers proved fatal. The game marked the first since the firing of Coach Tyler Plantz.

Lincoln-Way East vs. Sandburg

Lincoln-Way East triumphed over Sandburg with a 38-17 victory in the SouthWest Suburban Conference. Jayden Cawthon, a senior receiver and kick return specialist, turned a mistake into motivation. After mistakenly running the wrong way on a kickoff, he later executed a 54-yard return, contributing to the team’s momentum and his own touchdown catch.

Batavia vs. St. Charles North

Batavia initiated the game with flair, defeating St. Charles North 55-35. Quarterback Michael Vander Luitgaren, committed to Wyoming, began with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Brennon Zeng. Following their own onside kick recovery, Batavia built a 36-0 lead. St. Charles North rallied back with senior quarterback Landon Conroy narrowing the gap, but Batavia maintained their lead.

West Aurora vs. Elgin

West Aurora’s Tyler Fecht led his team to a 60-0 victory over Elgin in the Upstate Eight Conference. As the starting quarterback, he completed 7 of 8 passes for 105 yards, contributing three touchdowns. Fecht’s transition from backup last season to starting quarterback this season has been remarkable.

Naperville North vs. Metea Valley

Naperville North claimed a 41-3 win against Metea Valley in the DuPage Valley Conference. John Lyons, who initially aimed for a baseball career, shone as a linebacker. Lyons recorded seven tackles and a sack, showcasing his critical role in the team’s success.

Wauconda vs. Grayslake North

Wauconda dominated with a 48-14 victory over Grayslake North in the Northern Lake County Conference. Sophomore Colton Zak impressed with his defensive prowess, frequently pressuring the opposing quarterback, Jaylen Newkirk. Zak also scored his first varsity touchdown, solidifying his growing reputation.

Andrean vs. Hobart

Andrean triumphed over Hobart with a 28-10 win in the Northwest Crossroads Conference. Sophomore wide receiver Stetson Sullivan excelled with six catches for 79 yards and three touchdowns. Despite his smaller stature, Sullivan’s route-running skill made a substantial impact on the game.
