A Canadian teenager is facing charges of arson following allegations she set fire to a charter bus belonging to an American professional baseball team. The incident occurred while the Kane County Cougars, an independent baseball team from the U.S., were on a road trip to Winnipeg, Canada.
On May 21, Winnipeg law enforcement officials responded to reports of a team bus engulfed in flames near Blue Cross Park. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the blaze was deliberately ignited. Initial investigations led to the arrest of two teenagers, one of whom, a 15-year-old girl, has been charged with arson and possession of incendiary materials.
The teenager was subsequently released under the supervision of a responsible adult. The Winnipeg Police emphasized in their statement that both the bus and its contents suffered total destruction.
Jackson Greteman, operations manager at Windstar, the company owning the bus, expressed disappointment at the incident. He noted the bus’s destruction would severely affect the company’s operations, estimating the damage at approximately $425,000. Thankfully, no injuries were reported due to the incident. The company is actively cooperating with local authorities during the investigation.
The motive behind this act remains unknown as investigations continue. Authorities have not released further details.
