Closure of Red Lobster’s Oldest Location in Tallahassee

1 month ago 0

A Red Lobster restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida, known as the oldest continuously operating location of the chain, is set to close after more than 50 years of service. The restaurant, situated on North Monroe Street, will serve its final customers on May 24.

In a statement, Red Lobster expressed the significance of this location to both the company’s history and the local community. However, business evaluations and lease considerations have led to the decision to shut down this particular site.

The acting general manager shared sentiments of regret, mentioning the dedication of their outstanding crew. Red Lobster has extended its gratitude to patrons and staff who have supported the Tallahassee restaurant over the years.

“This restaurant holds a special place in Red Lobster’s history and has been a meaningful part of the community for decades,” the company acknowledged.

The closure comes amid broader financial difficulties for Red Lobster. The chain recently closed several locations nationwide before entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Experts and sources have pointed to the enduring Endless Shrimp promotion as contributing factors to financial woes.

An event from 2014 greatly impacted Red Lobster. Ownership of the chain’s real estate was sold, leading to sizable lease payments. In response to recent challenges, the company has introduced new menu items to attract customers following bankruptcy filing. These include lobster pappardelle pasta and lemon basil mahi.

Under the leadership of Damola Adamolekun, Red Lobster is undergoing operational changes to address the inherited issues. While Endless Shrimp has returned to select locations, Adamolekun emphasized the limited nature of this promotion.
