A woman has been arrested related to the death of an American citizen in Playas del Coco, a tourist-favored coastal town in Costa Rica. This arrest was confirmed by Deputy Director Vladimir Muñoz from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency.

The arrested individual is identified as Ortiz. She was apprehended around 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, in connection with the death of a 74-year-old American named Fleming. He was discovered dead on September 27 at a beachfront condominium.

The incident happened in the afternoon of September 27, as confirmed by Costa Rican authorities. Surveillance videos from the Judicial Investigation Agency have revealed a woman connected to this crime in Playas del Coco.

“Fleming met Ortiz online and picked her up near Playas del Coco,” explained Muñoz.

The two had reportedly engaged in a dispute at his apartment, during which Ortiz allegedly caused a head injury to Fleming, leading to his death. Ortiz is also accused of stealing his bank cards, though it’s unclear if these were used.

Details from the scene show that at the time of the incident, the woman was wearing blue denim shorts, sandals, and a white bra with chain-like decorations. She was seen in surveillance footage walking alongside another woman, who has also been detained.

The arrest was made possible through confidential tips, leading authorities to Ortiz at a property in San Felipe de Alajuelita.

This case highlights the investigative efforts of Costa Rican authorities and the importance of community tips in solving crimes.
