Actress Selma Blair was reportedly arrested on Sunday following accusations of attempting to open an aircraft door mid-flight and engaging in physical altercations with two flight attendants. The incident occurred on a Delta flight, with the aircraft headed to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, as reported by TMZ.
According to the report, Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another during the flight. The Port Authority informed TMZ that both attendants sustained injuries, with one requiring hospitalization.
In a statement to Newsweek, a representative for Blair explained that the actress experienced a medical emergency, which allegedly contributed to her behavior. The representative confirmed that upon landing, Blair received immediate medical attention and is now in stable condition.
A Delta spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek via email that the incident took place on October 11 aboard Flight 938 traveling from Los Angeles to New York. Despite the occurrence, the flight landed ahead of schedule and operationally was not affected. They emphasized Delta’s zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, prioritizing the safety of customers and crew.
Trouble continued after the flight when TMZ reported an assault accusation involving Blair and a nurse at the hospital where she underwent evaluation. Blair now faces two assault charges related to separate incidents involving a police officer and the nurse.
The FBI, which handles probes into all assaults occurring on aircraft, confirmed to Newsweek that they were informed by the Port Authority Police Department about a potential assault on the flight. They adhered to the Department of Justice policy refraining from commenting on ongoing investigations.
Efforts to obtain comments from the TSA and Delta continued, as both were contacted via email on Monday afternoon.
