The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced on Thursday that it has not yet received any contact from Mexican authorities concerning the search for Nancy Guthrie. Reports have emerged suggesting an anonymous tip might have uncovered a grave south of the border belonging to Guthrie, who is 84 years old.
According to Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, leader of Buscando Corazones Nogales in Sonora, Mexico, a tip-off suggested a body fitting Guthrie’s description could be located in the Mariposa area near Nogales, Sonora. Buscando Corazones Nogales is dedicated to finding missing persons in Mexico.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos released a statement on social media confirming awareness of these claims. “At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities,” he stated. “This investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information.”
A missing person poster for Guthrie has appeared near a border wall following the anonymous tip that prompted the search south of the border. Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona residence in February 2026. Authorities suspect abduction; however, no evidence indicates she was transported across the southern border.
Video footage from a doorbell camera revealed a masked individual wearing gloves at Guthrie’s home around the time of her disappearance. The same masked figure was seen three weeks earlier approaching the home. The footage indicates a possible multiple-person involvement since the home’s back door was left open when police arrived hours later.
Supposed ransom notes were sent to TMZ and local media outlets, although arrests related to the case have yet to occur.
