Vice President JD Vance Discusses U.S.-Iran Talks and Political Shifts

4 days ago 0

Vice President JD Vance provided an update on the ongoing U.S.-Iran nuclear talks taking place in Switzerland. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons while maintaining open international shipping routes. The administration aims for a lasting peace deal, evidenced by the recent movement of 16 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Vance also addressed the rise of socialist candidates within the Democratic Party. Speaking on the program ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ he expressed concern that the Democratic Party is veering toward its ‘most-radical fringes’ after several local victories by progressive and socialist candidates.

Vance commented on the lessons learned by the Democratic Party following the 2024 election loss. He noted, ‘My genuine hope was that the lesson the Democrats learned from the 2024 election is maybe we should stop being so crazy.’ According to Vance, the Democratic Party appears to have leaned into the more radical elements following the election.

The Vice President’s remarks followed various socialist victories in high-profile races nationwide. Janeese Lewis George, a member of the Washington, D.C., City Council, won the Democratic mayoral primary recently. In Maine, progressive Graham Platner, who appeared alongside Senator Bernie Sanders at a rally, secured the Democratic Senate nomination and is set to face Senator Susan Collins in the upcoming election.

New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who is also a socialist, collaborated with Sanders on a voter mobilization event in Brooklyn. They expressed support for several socialist and progressive candidates ahead of the New York primaries.

Vance emphasized a shift in the party and its impact on moderate Democrats, noting, ‘I was raised by patriotic Christian blue-collar Democrats who loved this country, but they weren’t Republicans. Unfortunately, those patriotic blue-collar Democrats increasingly don’t have a place in that party anymore, at least among the elected senior leadership ranks.’

Vice President Vance further criticized the notion that socialist candidates advocate for the working class. He argued that pushing for policies like abolishing ICE could negatively impact American workers. ‘I always find it interesting when socialists tell me that they really stand up for working people, and they want to protect working people, but they want to abolish ICE,’ he said. He asserted that such policies would lead to an influx of low-wage immigrants competing against American workers.

Vance, discussing his book ‘Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith’ during an appearance in New York City, reaffirmed his stance on border enforcement. He stated, ‘You do not care about working people if you refuse to enforce the border. Stop pretending that you do.’
