Trump’s Secret Plane Switch Due to Security Threat

President Donald Trump revealed that he changed planes during his July return from Turkey due to a security threat. The decision came from the Secret Service and military. Trump stated, “They wanted me to go on a different flight, a different plane. I guess there was a threat out there.”

NBC News corroborated earlier reports that Trump covertly transferred to an unmarked jet with the help of a catering truck on July 8. Initially, he boarded Air Force One publicly, but he actually flew to a UK base on the unmarked jet. People thought he was on Air Force One, including reporters and staff.

Trump mentioned, “The plane I flew on was at greater risk. I think it was at greater risk because that would be the plane I think that they would be more likely to go for.” He did not explain why the unmarked jet, a C-32, was considered a potential target.

A U.S. official reported the switch was part of a response to a new Iranian plot to kill Trump. This threat might have involved a missile targeting Air Force One as it left Turkey. Key individuals, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, stayed on the decoy plane.

Trump admitted he did not ask for details about the threat, saying he was “not surprised” it occurred. He remarked, “Any consequential president has a lot of threats. Nonconsequential presidents don’t get threatened, and I think that I may be the most consequential president.”

Congressional Democrats are calling for officials to brief them on the incident and any associated security threats.
