Trump’s Approval Rating and Economic Concerns
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has reached a record low, as indicated by the latest Fox News Poll. Only 36% of Americans approve of his performance amidst growing economic worries, with the election less than three weeks away.
The poll highlights a decline in support from several key demographic groups: voters under 45, non-college-educated individuals, non-white voters, and households earning below $50,000 annually.
Robert Y. Shapiro from Columbia University noted that this situation is challenging for Republicans, as Trump’s efforts appear ineffective.
Midterm Elections and Loss of Seats
Midterm elections often reflect the political climate for the ruling party, with the president’s party traditionally losing seats. Currently, Republicans hold narrow majorities in Congress.
The president’s approval on specific issues like the economy, immigration, jobs, and the conflict in Iran have also decreased. Affordability remains a major concern for American households.
Poll Details and Statistics
The Fox News Poll reveals several pertinent figures: Trump’s disapproval stands at 64%, while his approval among independents is only 22%. His approval rating on inflation is at 22%, marking a new low.
Seventy-four percent of respondents rate the economy negatively and 53% expect it to deteriorate next year. Nearly 60% identify cost of living as the top concern, and 55% feel inflation remains uncontrolled.
Message to Trump and Voting Intentions
Seven in ten voters intend to participate in the midterms to convey a message to Trump. If voting occurred today, 54% would favor Democrats for the House compared to 45% who would back Republicans, as per the poll.
“Trump’s instincts have been questionable, making the election about him,” Shapiro stated. “He needs to tackle tariffs, Iran’s war impact on energy, and foreign policy issues he assured victories on.”
Shapiro emphasized that without a significant development concerning the Iran or Ukraine conflicts, the approval rating may remain unchanged.
To aid Republican candidates, Shapiro suggests financial support to amplify their presence in media and mobilize voters. Grant Davis Reeher from Syracuse University noted that while Trump’s rating dipped slightly, the situation remains bleak for Republicans.
Trust In Political Parties
According to the poll, voters favor Democrats on healthcare, gas prices, AI, and foreign policy. Republicans are more trusted on border security, crime, and immigration.
