DOJ Subpoenas in Federal Probe of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Family

43 minutes ago 0

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has intensified legal scrutiny on Representative Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., as federal investigations delve into her immigration history and financial disclosures. Reports reveal a recent raid at Omar’s residence, which involved the seizure of her cell phone. Justice correspondent David Spunt, alongside former federal prosecutor Andrew Cherkasky, discusses the legal and political implications of these investigations.

Federal authorities conducted a raid at Omar’s Washington, D.C., home, targeting her immigration paperwork. The investigation has led to over a dozen subpoenas issued to her family members. Central to the probe is the examination of whether statements regarding Omar’s age and immigration details were falsified. Documents suggest discrepancies in her age at the time of her naturalization as a U.S. citizen in 2000, potentially affecting her eligibility.

Concerns regarding Omar’s age resurfaced after her congressional staff requested changes to historical records at a Minnesota public library, adjusting her birth year from 1981 to 1982. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents conducted the raid early Monday, a move confirmed by sources cited in Fox News Digital.

Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, expressed confidence in the face of these allegations, emphasizing Omar’s entry into the U.S. as a child war refugee at the age of 12. He stated, ‘No concerns’ regarding the investigation.

Federal agents are also reviewing documents submitted by Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, scrutinizing the authenticity of his statements on his application to enter the United States. Omar has consistently denied wrongdoing, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement as a political tool against her.

Omar’s office released a statement condemning the raid as politically motivated, asserting that Rep. Omar has been the subject of inflammatory rhetoric from Donald Trump over the years. ‘Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.’

While the immigration probe unfolds, a separate investigation is reviewing Omar’s federal financial disclosures. Officials clarified that this financial inquiry is distinct from the raid on her home.

Fox News Digital has contacted Omar’s office for comments on the situation.
