Thousands Expected at ‘No Kings’ Rallies in Southern California

27 minutes ago 0

On Saturday afternoon, thousands of protesters are anticipated to join ‘No Kings’ rallies across Los Angeles County and Southern California. These events aim to boost voter participation in the upcoming election on November 3.

In the South Bay area, an early protest featured about 50 participants marching between Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. The march coincided with typical beach activities, including a volleyball tournament with teams in Halloween costumes, a poodle wearing booties to combat the heat of the concrete, and a man loudly speaking to himself about religious themes.

The protesters gathered for a group photo near the Hermosa Pier, chanting “VOTE!” on cue. This marks the fourth such rally within a year, each focusing on various issues. Previous rallies addressed topics like President Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions, the Iran conflict, high gas prices, and rising food costs.

The ‘No Kings: Vote Early’ initiative is described by the coalition’s website as a progression in empowering individuals after a year of activism. The focus is on nonpartisan voter engagement and ensuring every eligible voter is informed and prepared to cast their ballot.

Rallies are scheduled throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, some starting as early as 10 a.m. In downtown Los Angeles, protesters will assemble in Gloria Molina Grand Park at 1 p.m. for a march that will continue until 5:30 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department warned that these ‘non-permitted’ events might influence traffic, advising caution on several streets in a social media post.
