Tensions Arise at California Track Meet Over Trans Athlete Participation

3 weeks ago 0

A confrontation occurred between “Save Girls Sports” advocates and pro-LGBTQ activists outside a California championship track meet. The event involved a trans athlete, AB Hernandez, and led to the presence of multiple police officers.

The incident started at a press conference organized by local LGBTQ groups, Pride at the Pier and Rainbow Families Action, near the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship in Clovis. The focus was on Hernandez, a trans athlete competing for state titles in three girls’ jumping events. Support was expressed for Hernandez by his mother, Nereyda Hernandez, and other LGBTQ activists.

As this conference neared its end, “Save Girls Sports” activists arrived, prompting a heated verbal altercation. Clovis Police Department officers were present, but the confrontation eventually ended without police intervention. Clovis Police declined to comment on the incident.

Footage showed tensions at the event, involving activists. Beth Bourne, a leading “Save Girls Sports” activist, explained her perspective to Fox News Digital. She expressed concerns about fairness in sports competition and Hernandez’s gender identity.

In contrast, pro-LGBTQ activist Daisy Gardner urged Bourne to learn and understand different perspectives, emphasizing compassion and healing with her family.

This year’s CIF state finals have faced controversy over Hernandez’s participation for the second consecutive year. Last year, protests and an arrest occurred, with one pro-transgender activist facing assault charges related to the event.

Jackson Thompson, a Fox News Digital sports reporter, provided detailed coverage of the issue. His reporting has been recognized in various media outlets and federal government actions related to Title IX enforcement.
