On Friday, Chad Tracy, interim manager of the Boston Red Sox, shared an announcement about a new team development. Adley Rutschman, who recently joined from the Baltimore Orioles, will begin his rehabilitation assignment.
Rutschman, recovering from left wrist discomfort, is set to play with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday. This marks his first game appearance since July 18. He is scheduled to catch for five innings and have at least two at-bats. The Woo Sox highlighted the upcoming appearance of this three-time All-Star on social media.
The Red Sox are not urgently needing Rutschman’s comeback in the lineup. The team’s offense has been performing well, averaging six runs per game over an 18-3 stretch since July 17. Current catchers Connor Wong and Jake Rogers have not excelled offensively, with a combined OPS+ below average.
Rutschman has shown improvement at the plate this season, despite time on the injured list. His current stats reveal a .251 batting average, .331 on-base percentage, and .433 slugging percentage with an OPS+ of 115.
Integrating Rutschman into the lineup can provide both offensive and defensive advantages for the Red Sox.
