Supreme Court Declines to Revive Carter Page’s Lawsuit Against Former FBI Officials

1 week ago 0

The Supreme Court has chosen not to restart Carter Page’s lawsuit against former FBI officials. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused herself from the decision. This ruling puts an end to Page’s efforts to hold individual FBI leaders accountable for mistakes in surveillance during the Russia investigation. The outcome leaves Page without further legal options and concludes the case against former officials such as James Comey. A lower court ruling remains in place, stating that Page’s claims were filed too late.

The justices released a brief, unsigned order declining Page’s appeal. This decision upholds a federal appeals court ruling that a three-year statute of limitations prevents his claims. Page contended that the legal timeframe should have commenced in 2019. This was when a Justice Department inspector general uncovered significant errors in the FBI’s surveillance approach. Although Page initiated legal action in 2020, the courts disagreed with his argument.

Justice Jackson did not take part in the decision, and the Court did not provide an explanation for her recusal, which is customary.
