Rapid Spread of Ridge Fire Causes Massive Disruption in Gorman

Ridge Fire: A brush fire erupted in Gorman on Friday afternoon, quickly expanding and causing significant disruptions. The Ridge fire, which ignited near the 39000 block of Gorman Post Road around 3 p.m., swiftly engulfed 100 acres of brush in northwestern Los Angeles County.

By the late afternoon, the blaze had dramatically increased to 1,000 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. This rapid escalation led the fire to cross the 5 Freeway, prompting several emergency responses.

Evacuations and Traffic Impact: As a result of the fire advancing across the freeway, authorities issued an evacuation order for regions in Gorman and Hungry Valley located west of the freeway. In addition, there are evacuation warnings directed to both the south and north of the blaze, as well as areas within the adjacent Kern County. Heavy traffic delays ensued through the Grapevine due to lane closures.

Wind conditions at the fire site are reported by the National Weather Service as predominantly south-to-southeast, blowing at speeds of 6 to 10 mph, with gusts reaching up to 15 mph. The climate adds to the challenge, with temperatures in the lower 90s and humidity levels around 18%.
