The Las Vegas Raiders started their season with promise, winning their first three games against the Dolphins, Chargers, and Saints. However, the situation has shifted as they have now lost four games consecutively. The latest defeat came with a 35-21 loss to the Rams at Allegiant Stadium. During the first half, the Raiders struggled significantly, conceding four consecutive touchdown drives, leaving them with a 28-6 deficit by halftime.
In this game, quarterback Kirk Cousins accumulated 295 passing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Raiders’ running game faltered, achieving only 48 rushing yards over 17 carries, averaging 2.8 yards per carry. This loss puts the Raiders at a 3-4 record for the season, matching the Rams’ current standing.
Following the game, CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco suggested that the Raiders should consider trading their star pass rusher, Maxx Crosby, as part of their rebuilding efforts. Prisco argued that Crosby is a valuable asset that could be exchanged for future draft picks, especially as the trade deadline approaches. He recalled that Crosby had been nearly traded before, and stressed the importance of leveraging his value at this phase of the team’s development.
Crosby has been a pivotal player for the Raiders, but his performance this season has not matched last year’s output. In seven games, he has recorded 18 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble, a decline from the previous season’s 73 tackles and ten sacks over 15 games before suffering a meniscus injury. At 29, Crosby carries the experience of playing through injury, having undergone knee surgery following last season, but is yet to recapture top form.
Speculation about Crosby’s trade value isn’t new. Earlier this year, a deal with the Ravens fell through due to medical concerns. However, trading Crosby could benefit all involved parties. The Raiders could strengthen their long-term rebuilding strategy by acquiring draft picks to build around young talent such as Fernando Mendoza, Ashton Jeanty, and Brock Bowers. For potential contenders, securing a player of Crosby’s caliber would enhance their playoff prospects. Recent interest has come from teams like the Cowboys and Bears, who are seeking defensive improvements. The Jaguars and 49ers have also shown interest in the past.
With the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 10, the Raiders face crucial decisions about their roster configuration and future strategies.
