Tucker Carlson’s Stance
Former supporter of President Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, has become an outspoken critic. He has suggested that Trump should be removed from office immediately. Carlson cited concerns over the U.S. military potentially using nuclear weapons in the conflict with Iran.
Carlson, a conservative figure and previous Fox News host, shared these views on The Tucker Carlson Show. He discussed the risk of nuclear escalation in the U.S.-Israeli confrontation with Iran.
“I was strongly opposed,” Carlson mentioned regarding the prior impeachment attempts against Trump. He labeled those efforts as absurd. However, he believes the prospect of a president contemplating the first use of nuclear weapons crosses a significant boundary.
“Destroying all of humanity with a nuclear strike? So why isn’t there an attempt to remove him from office, like immediately?” Carlson expressed. “Any leader of any country who suggests first use of nuclear weapons has forfeited his right to lead. He has to be removed immediately. I think that’s just a fair standard,” he added.
Discussions on Nuclear Weapons
Newsweek contacted the White House for comments but did not receive a prompt response. Carlson alleged that tactical nuclear weapons discussions had occurred at the Pentagon and accused Trump of frequently suggesting their use against Iran.
Carlson pointed out Trump’s warning in April, where the president stated that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran didn’t comply with U.S. demands. He characterized this remark as a nuclear threat.
Carlson’s Growing Rift with Trump
Carlson’s comments reflect a widening ideological gap with Trump, particularly over U.S. foreign policy regarding Iran. In June, Carlson declared his departure from the Republican Party, intending to support a third-party initiative.
This month, Carlson described nuclear warfare and artificial intelligence as history’s two most significant threats, criticizing authorities for being “frozen” in response.
Trump’s Perspective on Nuclear Weapons
Trump’s aggressive rhetoric toward Iran has faced scrutiny with escalating tensions. He has consistently warned against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, using forceful language on the consequences if Tehran does not meet U.S. expectations.
In April, Trump warned of severe repercussions, yet later excluded nuclear options, asserting they were unnecessary.
Questions about tactical nuclear possibilities arose in June when a report suggested all options remained on the table against Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility. However, official sources denied considering nuclear approaches.
Trump’s comments on nuclear strategy have also attracted attention. Last year, he implied a potential resumption of nuclear weapon tests. He argued for equal footing with Russia and China but offered few specifics on testing intentions. Later, he advocated for “denuclearization” and “de-escalation.”
