Palestinian American Faces Settler Siege in West Bank

1 hour ago 0

The village of Qusra in the West Bank faces tension as Palestinian homes are besieged by Israeli settlers. Loui Ridi, a Palestinian American, traveled to his home in Qusra after Israeli settlers surrounded it for over a week.

According to video footage, settlers have been roaming the area on ATVs, interacting with Israeli soldiers. Ridi has used his security cameras to monitor the situation from afar, expressing his frustration at what he perceives as an attempt to steal his property. Despite the declaration of a closed military zone by Israel, settlers and soldiers continue to engage amicably, highlighting ongoing tensions.

Ridi’s family members, including his brother and teenage nephew, have remained in the home to protect it. The situation represents a fragment of the larger conflict, where violence in the West Bank has surged. Settler attacks increased under the influence of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s right-wing government, leading to numerous confrontations.

The United States has criticized the siege, while Israel’s military claims presence for maintaining order. This year, 87 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers, according to Palestinian health officials. In retaliation, Palestinians killed three Israelis recently, including during clashes in Tell last month.

Upon arrival in Qusra, Ridi was escorted by Israel’s military to his house, reuniting with his family. He stressed the disruption caused to his family, highlighting the necessity of accessing his home freely.
