The Kansas City Chiefs surprised the NFL community by adding Justin Tucker to their practice squad on Wednesday. Tucker, a kicker with a controversial past, last played in the NFL in 2024 before the Baltimore Ravens released him. The release followed accusations of sexual misconduct from 16 massage therapists in Baltimore, related to incidents allegedly occurring between 2012 and 2016.
The Chiefs faced immediate backlash on social media after announcing Tucker’s signing. Fans criticized the decision, recalling a past conflict between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Tucker during the 2024 AFC Championship Game. During the game, Tucker was seen stretching in an area designated for the Chiefs’ offense warm-up. Kelce, frustrated by Tucker’s encroachment, responded by moving Tucker’s helmet and football out of the way.
“We’re warming up, and we do our same warm-up every single time,” Kelce later explained on his “New Heights” podcast. “If you’re trying to go to the other team’s designated area, you kind of stay out of their way. … Justin came out, and he said it was more of a joking gesture and a kind of fun competition.”
Kelce further expressed irritation with Tucker’s actions, suggesting Tucker had intended to provoke them. Kelce emphasized his readiness to respond to such behavior.
Fans quickly revisited Kelce’s comments about the incident, sparking humorous responses on social media. Some speculated on the dynamics between Kelce and Tucker now that they are teammates, with comments suggesting upcoming tension or playful rivalries.
“Maybe the Chiefs just did this so Kelce can bully Tucker on the regular,” one fan joked. “Tucker was never the same after Travis put a curse on him and now they’re teammates,” another joked. Fans noted the irony of their reunion, with comments about potential awkwardness or renewed disputes during practice.
