Former CIA Director John Brennan faces a subpoena to appear before a Florida grand jury next month. This is part of a Justice Department investigation into allegations that former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against President Donald Trump.
Ken Wainstein, Brennan’s attorney, revealed in a court filing that prosecutors provided a subpoena for Brennan to attend a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida on October 15. The investigation examines if officials deprived Trump of his civil rights during their inquiries into him over the past decade.
Brennan, an outspoken critic of Trump during the Obama administration, remains a target in another Washington-based investigation. This separate probe is looking into claims that he lied to Congress in 2023, which Brennan and his legal team have denied.
This development coincides with a leadership change in the investigation, known as the “grand conspiracy” probe. The subpoena was issued on the day prosecutor Joe diGenova resigned from his role at the Department of Justice. The department has not yet named a successor.
Wainstein mentioned discussions with Kurt Olsen, a member of the investigative team who previously advocated for the Justice Department to support Trump’s election claims in 2020.
The subpoena disclosure came just before a Washington court hearing related to a lawsuit Brennan filed. He seeks a court order to preserve documents pertinent to the investigations against him, arguing the need to defend against any potential indictment on vindictive prosecution grounds.
