7 days ago 0

An ICE officer in Florida took immediate action when he noticed a child struggling in a pool, demonstrating bravery in a time of need. Gregory Simmonds, who works with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Tampa, was at a community pool in Pasco County when he saw a young child unconscious in the water.

Without any hesitation, Simmonds jumped into the pool fully clothed, quickly reaching the child and providing aid. He carried the child to the edge of the pool, where further assistance was rendered. The child was resuscitated and is now expected to make a full recovery, according to law enforcement reports.

This officer swiftly sprung to action and delivered life-saving medical care to this 6-year-old who drowned.

This was stated by Acting Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis, who praised the officer’s decisive and courageous response. Bis emphasized the importance of appreciating ICE officers, who often face criticism yet continue to protect communities.

Cpl. J. Leathers from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office also commended Simmonds’ heroism, highlighting his quick response and willingness to act despite the risks.

The incident is one of several recent examples where ICE officers have demonstrated life-saving actions. Earlier in the year, an ICE agent assisted a one-year-old at JFK International Airport in New York during a medical emergency. Similarly, off-duty ICE agents in Minnesota saved a child at a hotel pool, performing CPR until help arrived.

Simmonds’ actions are a reminder of the dedication and courage shown by many ICE officers, who continue to serve amidst challenges and protests outside ICE facilities.
