Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, recently suggested the possibility of suing Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., after the representative made comments against him. This response followed Khanna’s remarks on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, where he advocated for holding Musk accountable if the Democratic Party regained control of the House or Senate.
Khanna stated, “I do believe once we take power, there needs to be accountability. There needs to be accountability for Elon Musk.” He criticized the celebration of Musk creating 4,400 millionaires but highlighted the potential deaths of 4.5 million children worldwide due to alleged USAID cuts by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk reacted on X, labeling Khanna a “liar” and calling for a lawsuit. He countered Khanna’s claims, explaining, “All DOGE did was require contact with the aid recipients to confirm that funds were being used legitimately.” Musk noted instances where USAID individuals were charged with misappropriation, linking to a 2025 Justice Department press release regarding a guilty plea from a former USAID official.
In further posts, Musk claimed the DOGE standard simply ensured aid funds were not fraudulent. He accused Khanna of questionable stock trading practices and referred to him as a “robber.” Musk’s posts targeted what he saw as falsehoods in Khanna’s assertions.
Responding to Musk’s comments, Khanna released a video emphasizing his stance against Musk. Khanna stated, “Today, Elon Musk threatened to sue me and called on the Justice Department to put me in prison. That’s right. The world’s richest person has spent all day tweeting, going after me.” He reiterated his position, referencing an academic study suggesting DOGE cuts could have grave consequences.
Khanna challenged Musk to a debate, highlighting his own advocacy for transparency and his opposition to influential figures. Khanna asserted, “I’m not going to be intimidated or silenced.” His steadfast response underscored his commitment to accountability and free speech.
