Brock Bowers’ Injury Shakes Fantasy Football Community

News from the Las Vegas Raiders has sparked disappointment among fantasy football managers, especially those who drafted close to the start of the NFL season. Star tight end Brock Bowers recently underwent a meniscus trim in Dallas. According to ESPN, he is expected to miss ‘a game or two.’ This situation significantly impacts the Raiders’ revamped offense under head coach Klint Kubiak. Bowers had lingering knee issues last season and was poised to be a top target for Kirk Cousins this year.

Reports indicate that Bowers had been “banged up a little in camp” and the injury was diagnosed last week. Dr. Daniel Cooper performed the surgery, and Bowers is aiming for a return by Week 3. The recovery timeline could change based on his progress. It is noteworthy that the Raiders were aware of this since last week but did not disclose the information.

The unreliability of such injury reports frustrates fantasy football managers. Roughly 40 million Americans participate in fantasy leagues, making transparent injury disclosures crucial. Injuries like Bowers’ impact drafting decisions and lineup changes. Bowers was a popular draft pick due to his impressive rookie stats, with 1,194 yards on 112 receptions and five touchdowns.

Head coach Kubiak was questioned about injuries before the news broke. When asked if Bowers and Maxx Crosby would be available, Kubiak said, ‘We’re expecting to have all our guys ready for Sunday.’ This leads to speculation about Kubiak’s awareness of the situation.

Bowers had a disrupted 2025 season, managing only 12 games due to a PCL sprain and bone bruising from Week 1 against the Patriots. As Ari Meirov noted, a meniscus trim usually requires four to six weeks for recovery. The Raiders hope for a quicker return.

In response, fantasy managers might consider picking up the Raiders’ second tight end, Michael Mayer, from waivers. Mayer was expected to contribute significantly, thanks to Bowers’ ability to be placed anywhere on the line due to his route-running skills. Now, Cousins will count on Mayer during the game against the Miami Dolphins at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
