Annual Batavia Car Show Raises Funds and Enthusiasm

2 days ago 0

The annual car show at the Batavia Moose Lodge attracted a vibrant crowd last Saturday. The event, now in its fourth year, took place at 1535 S. Batavia Ave. Attendees, including Lily Sullivan from Carol Stream and Preston Bernatek from Batavia, explored an array of vintage and modern vehicles showcased in the lodge’s parking lot.

Sullivan, a car show enthusiast and owner of an ND Miata, shared, “I come to about six car shows yearly. I enjoy seeing cars displayed and discussing common interests.”

The event, known for its appeal, draws a mixed crowd of car owners, parents, and committed auto enthusiasts. Moose member Marty Hamilton emphasized the community aspect, saying, “Car shows are effective in attracting people and fundraisers like this are beneficial. It’s enjoyable to witness people coming together.”

The show featured giveaways, prizes, food, and beverages, all supporting the Mooseheart Kids Christmas Fund. Participants could enter their cars for a $15 fee in advance or $20 on the day. Alissa Roy from St. Charles, the event’s organizer, explained the fundraiser’s purpose. “It supports kids without homes for Christmas. We provide gifts and essentials for each child and their homes,” she said.

Over its initial three years, the car show raised approximately $25,000, with around 120 vehicles displayed each year. Roy noted the variety, saying, “We’ve had everything from brand-new Teslas and Ferraris to impressive classic cars.”

Roy credited the event’s origins to her fiancé, a car mechanic fond of car shows. “It’s a fun event,” she remarked. The show included raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle, both supported by local businesses.

John Bonner from Plainfield showcased his striking green 2007 Bentley. “I bought it this way. It’s like a green highlighter on the road,” Bonner commented.

Bernatek shared how his passion began, inspired by a neighbor and video games he enjoyed as a child. His interests grew further through high school, leading to car ownership and participation in shows like this one.
