Actor Jordan Walker Ross Endorses Texas Senate Candidate James Talarico

1 day ago 0

Jordan Walker Ross, known for his role in “The Chosen” as Little James, has publicly backed James Talarico, a Democratic candidate for the Texas Senate. Ross’s endorsement includes the launch of a faith-focused voter coalition named “Faithful Texans for Talarico,” aimed to attract religious voters ahead of the upcoming November election. This endorsement has sparked criticism from Republican circles, particularly concerning taxpayer-funded Hollywood subsidies.

Ross argues that Talarico exemplifies true Christian values through his actions, mentioning his care for neighbors, the needy, and immigrants. Ross said, “A lot of politicians like to talk about Christian values, but you don’t really see that reflected in their legislation or the way that they live. But you do see that in the way that James lives.”

The endorsement also drew criticism from Ken Paxton’s campaign. They argue that Talarico uses religious beliefs to promote progressive positions on social issues. Republican state Rep. Brian Harrison also criticized Ross’s endorsement, remarking on the use of taxpayer funds to subsidize actors who support Democrats. Harrison points to Texas Senate Bill 22, noting payments received by The Chosen LLC, as evidence of Hollywood subsidies supporting Democratic interests.

In response to the criticism, Ross defended his endorsement and the film incentives. He emphasized the right of actors to express political beliefs, stating that the film industry in Texas generates jobs for people of all political backgrounds. Ross continued, “The growing film industry in TX creates thousands of jobs for Texans who fall on both sides of the aisle… one of the beautiful things about our country is the right to voice our opinions and I encourage my fellow actors/filmmakers (on the right AND left) to do the same.”

Critics, however, question whether Ross’s political activism aligns with the Christian audience of “The Chosen.” Lisa Cusack of the Don’t L.A. My Burbank PAC doubted that Ross’s endorsement would benefit Talarico, suggesting that it might alienate religious viewers. Brittany Hughes, from the Media Research Center, pointed out that Ross’s role did not make him an authority on Christian teachings.

Ross expressed that he welcomes conversations with fans who disagree, stating that discussions conducted with compassion and curiosity can be beneficial. Talarico’s opponent, Republican Ken Paxton, has his own “Pastors for Paxton” coalition, showing there is active engagement from both candidates in appealing to faith-based voter groups.
