Jill Biden’s new memoir has stirred fresh controversy regarding Joe Biden’s performance during a presidential debate. Concerns about his health have resurfaced, partially due to claims from Michael LaRosa, the former chief spokesperson, who accused the White House of avoiding transparency. He criticized the current strategies to alter public perception, suggesting these efforts have come too late.
In a recent interview, Jill Biden shared her fear that Joe Biden might have been experiencing a stroke during his 2024 debate. This remark has faced criticism as a shift in her stance from her earlier support immediately after the debate against Donald Trump.
“They’re trying to change the tape in people’s minds about who she is… that’s why she’s sort of changing her tune a little bit about her reaction in real time,” said LaRosa. “She wants to say, ‘Oh no, my reaction was just as concerning and was just as severe as everyone at home. I was shocked.'”
Jill Biden had initially commended Joe Biden for his performance, saying, “You did such a great job, you answered every question, you knew all the facts,” in front of supportive crowds following the June 2024 debate.
However, in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she expressed alarm during the debate performance, saying, “I don’t know what happened. I mean, as I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.” Her comments have intensified debates, with Republicans citing Joe Biden’s performance as evidence for decline, while Democrats dismiss it as an isolated incident.
Further compounding the issue, Alex Thompson, an Axios reporter, countered Jill Biden’s depiction. Thompson, referencing insights while working on the book “Original Sin,” noted that Biden aides had previously reported similar behavior from Joe Biden, calling into question Jill Biden’s retroactive alarm.
