A political conflict is unfolding in Iran, where a vocal hard-line faction is actively working to disrupt ongoing negotiations with the United States. This group, though small, wields significant influence through rallies, state media, and public statements.
Iran and the United States are approaching a potential agreement to reduce hostilities. However, not everyone in Iran supports this development. The hard-liners, which include members of Parliament and representatives on the Supreme National Security Council, openly oppose concessions to Washington. They utilize rallies and their influence over state media to try to prevent any deal.
It is still uncertain when or if a formal agreement will be announced. President Trump once met with his cabinet in the Situation Room at the White House but delayed any final decision, according to insider reports. Iran’s lead negotiator, Gen. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, expressed on social media that Tehran remains skeptical of Washington, insisting that no action will be taken until the United States acts first.
In Iran, the political struggle persists. State television, under the control of a director aligned with hard-liners, has intensified the national divide, portraying negotiations as a failure. On a Monday meeting, President Masoud Pezeshkian reprimanded the state TV leaders, urging them to stop generating discord.
President Pezeshkian noted that even the former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died on the war’s first day, supported the idea of negotiation. Pezeshkian lamented, “But now, we are broadcasting messages against negotiations.”
At a rally in Tehran, hard-line supporters gathered in large numbers, waving flags and chanting for resistance. State television interviewed attendees, asking whether Iran should defy or negotiate with the United States and Israel. One woman declared, “We want them to punish them good.” Another man added, “Stand firm, we are with you until our last drop of blood.”
