Justice Clarence Thomas, supported by Justice Samuel Alito, voiced dissent after the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit from Florida against California. The case involved allegations of commercial truck driver’s licenses issued to undocumented immigrants.
Florida initiated the lawsuit following a high-profile accident last year. In this incident, a truck driven by Harjinder Singh, originally from India, resulted in the deaths of three people. Authorities claimed Singh lacked legal status in the United States and accused California and Washington of improperly issuing him licenses. The truck driver is currently facing criminal charges.
“This Court declines to even hear Florida’s claims, even though it has nowhere else to bring them. Because I would allow Florida to file its complaint, I respectfully dissent,”
Thomas expressed in his dissent, released as part of an orders list by the Supreme Court on Sunday.
